This spectacular prelude for brass band is very suitable for opening concerts. After a quick technical introduction, a melodic theme follows, followed by more technical highlights. At the end, the main theme returns in a grand finale. Preludes have been used as musical prelude since the 17th century, but they have also been used as introductory improvisation, designed to loosen the fingers of the players. Kick-Start contains all these elements of a prelude. Kick-Start was composed for Altena Brass. The premiere by Altena Brass conducted by Anno Appelo was on March 31th 2018 in ’t Uivernest in Hank.
Deze spectaculaire prelude voor brassband is zeer geschikt om concerten mee te openen. Na een snelle technische inleiding volgt een melodieus thema, waarna er nog meer technische hoogstandjes volgens. Aan het slot komt het hoofdthema terug in een grote finale. Preludes werden al vanaf de 17e eeuw gebruikt als muzikaal voorspel, maar ze werden ook wel gebruikt als inleidende improvisatie, bedoeld om de vingers van de spelers los te maken. Kick-Start heeft al deze elementen van een prelude in zich. Kick-Start werd gecomponeerd voor Altena Brass. De première door Altena Brass o.l.v. Anno Appelo vond plaats op 31 maart 2018 in ’t Uivernest in Hank.
