Fanfare and Prelude was commissioned by the Marine Band of the Royal Navy for the 18th edition of the Dutch National Veterans Day. The premiere took place on Saturday, June 25, 2022, in the Royal Theatre in The Hague.
In its original form, the work was composed in two separate parts, namely an opening fanfare for so-called herald trumpets entitled Veterans Fanfare and a prelude for concert band and herald trumpets entitled Veterans Prelude. Both separate works were already connected by using the same themes. In the Fanfare and Prelude, both separate works have been forged into one large work, whereby both parts can still be performed separately. The herald trumpet parts have been rewritten in this version into the trumpet and trombone parts.
The piano part in the work is optional.
Joop van Dijk – Fanfare and Prelude
Fanfare and Prelude werd in opdracht van de Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine gecomponeerd voor de 18e editie van de Nederlandse Nationale Veteranendag. De première vond plaats op zaterdag 25 juni 2022 in de Koninklijke Schouwburg in Den Haag.
In de oorspronkelijke vorm werd het werk gecomponeerd in twee losse delen, namelijk een openingsfanfare voor zogenaamde herald trumpets met de titel Veterans Fanfare en een prelude voor harmonie orkest en herald trumpets met de titel Veterans Prelude. Beide losse werken waren al wel verbonden met elkaar doordat gebruik werd gemaakt dezelfde thematiek. In de Fanfare and Prelude zijn beide losse werken tot een groot werk gesmeed, waarbij nog steeds beide delen ook afzonderlijk uitvoerbaar zijn. De herald trumpet partijen zijn in deze versie in de trompet en trombone partijen herschreven.
